The small roads meander along fields of lavender, olive trees or vineyards: it’s the true smell of Provence! During our last trip, we were once again dazzled by the ochre of the Luberon, the dominant panoramic views or the authentic character of the old villages.
Kilometre after kilometre, the landscapes revealed are of striking beauty and for a change, you can also discover the most picturesque places of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Arles and even push on to Avignon or ride the opposite way to Manosque.
The terrain is very manageable, without too many climbs and of course you can use electrical assistance on the steepest slopes should you wish.
What’s more, we have tested some beautiful roads that allow going from the Drôme Provençale or the Alpilles to the Luberon. This holds the promise of a journey full of variety, which will multiply the discoveries you can make.
South of Arles, the Carmargue is an ideal area for cycling. Discover its scenery on small roads which lead to paths (closed to motor traffic). The going will be easy in the heart of these protected landscapes – unless the Mistral wind picks up!

Cypress hedges, olive groves, vineyards, heath, Romanesque chapels, almond trees... In the centre, a rocky island emerges, the jagged white peaks of which offer a wonderful view of the whole of the Pays d'Arles which spreads out below.
When you visit the prestigious sites of Les Baux-de-Provence and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, you will understand why these two wonders are renowned for their magnificent heritage!
But you will also discover and appreciate all the richness and diversity of the Alpilles through the picturesque character of its villages, monuments and archaeological sites which recall the spirit of more than 4,000 years of civilization.
The Camargue, the land of wild and untamed nature.
Land with protected areas, the Camargue is a national park consisting mainly of wetlands.
Covered with ponds and lagoons it is a breeding ground for wild horses and bulls. They live freely among pink flamingos and hundreds of other animal species. It is a priviledged place where you can observe wildlife in a protected and yet fragile setting.
You will also discover Provencal traditions and culture including the picturesque village of Saintes Maries de la Mer and the beautiful, medieval and fortified city of Aigues-Mortes.
